A Website About Sheds?

"So what's up with this shed thing?"

It started, innocently enough, back in 1999.

I was working on a book for McGraw-Hill and I needed a topic to create a mini-website with real-world examples. The topic needed to be something that held my interest ... something I really cared about ... something I could write about from experience.

It didn't take me long to decide to build a little website about sheds. I recalled how long it took to find a good set of shed plans for my own shed ... and how much I enjoyed building the shed myself. I gained a good bit of perspective after having gone through the trials and tribulations.

The website didn't grow much beyond its core pages for the first few years. Things started to take off in the spring of 2003, when I wrote an ebook about backyard shed and barn building.

But I didn't go off the deep end until I began using MovableType later that year. Pressing the publish button was so much easier than hand-coding ... it was like going from hand tools to power tools!

This site, like my shed, is a work in process. It seems like there's always something to tidy up or fix. Just when you think things are going well, the door flies off its hinges ...
