Forbidden Rugged Laptop Found!

Remember that svelte and scrumptious rugged laptop I wrote about a few weeks back? The one that was impossible to find here in the states? Well, it's been found ...

To be fair, the Panasonic Toughbook W4 is lean, but not completely mean ... some folks might consider it a rugged laptop in more of a fashion sense. But it's hard to argue with those rugged good looks, a choice of eleven (11!) colors, light weight (just 2.66 pounds), and long battery life (somewhere between eight and nine hours, or so they say).

Max Raven dropped me a line after the article hit the wire. Not only did Max find a Toughbook W4 on these shores, he bought one and was kind enough to share the source ...

You can purchase this and other, better notebooks (such as the T4 with a larger screen and 12 hour battery life) from Dynamism which is a company that imports and "Americanizes" the latest technology for consumers in the USA. I recently purchased a W4 for a female friend (in Red, of course) and discovered that ALL of these products are "Toughbooks" in their nature of being semi-ruggedized and that the Toughbook name is really just a marketing gimmick aimed at the USA market. If you really want a special item and have to have it NOW, go to Dynamism. (This is not a paid advertisement, but a personal recommendation.)

I want a tough laptop, but I'm not keen on lugging around a brick. Semi-ruggedized should be enough to withstand the rigors of life here at ranchero indebto and a limited amount of time out on the road.

Thanks, Max!
