Invention

I have ideas for new inventions on a daily basis. Most of the inventions never pass the germ stage. But a handful take root as I produce doodle after doodle on any scrap of paper I can find. Some of my inventions become websites, while others come to life as artwork in my books. Alas, never have they grown into real live products. I have two killer ideas at the moment and seeing as how I'm in a sharing mood ...

I thought I'd share them with you.

After all, coming up with a new invention is one thing. Bringing that concept to completion is a whole 'nother thing. Finding the means to take an invention to market can be a staggering task. Or so I hear.

It's not like I have any hope of actually doing anything with these two brilliant inventions ...

Invention #1

The first invention combines a memory-foam pillow (a la the marvelous Tempur-Pedic) with a set of hi-fidelity wireless Bluetooth headphone. As you might have begun to suspect, the speakers are embedded in the pillow. Been done before, right? Well, here's where it's different: the pillow isn't flat. It's shaped like a big (squishy!) helmet.

Yes, that's right ... a pillow you can wear on your head. With wireless Bluetooth speakers. Think the Great Gazoo, minus the antenna.

With the Sharper Image, Dean Karman, and Stu Pickles as this inventor's inspiration, I can tell you that I'm not nuts. Not completely, at least.

I came up with the idea for this invention one day last month, while in the midst of a vain attempt for an afternoon nap. As I wrapped a pillow around my ears, I fell into a somewhat meditative state. I thought about how tough it is for me to fall asleep some nights ... what with a wife that snores like a buzzsaw, a daughter that sleeps with her stereo turned up loud, and a son that insists on watching TV in my room at night ... it's no wonder I'm an insomniac.

So the impetus behind this crazy invention is simple.

Why can't a memory-foam helmet block out the bedlam while cradling your head and neck in total comfort? Why can't it use noise-cancellation (or perhaps built-in white noise) together with a wireless Bluetooth stream of music from your computer, iPod, or other digital music source? Sure, it would need some form of ventilation system, but just think of the marvelous helmet hair you'll wake up with!

I can hardly wait to see what the infomercial production house will come up with.

And here you thought my RFID invention was wacked ...

Just wait until I spring the next one on you. :)
