Liverpool Soccer Jersey

I just won an auction for a Liverpool Soccer Jersey on eBay for one cent.

Yup ... one cent.

Here's how it happened ... I was browsing through the Liverpool jersey listings and found an auction with no bids. The starting bid was only one cent, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I actually set my top bid a good bit higher than one cent, but as it turned out, no one else bid on the shirt.

I was amazed to see eBay's Congratuations! letter pop up in my mailbox when I won the auction.

Flabbergasted, even.

Now I may have won the auction for the Liverpool jersey for a penny, but there are substantial shipping fees involved. The seller has asked for $12 to ship (from Thailand, imagine that), along with $2 insurance (required). Okay, so the Liverpool soccer shirt isn't going to cost me one penny, it's actually going to cost me $14.01.

Maybe I'll spend the extra cash on a polyphonic You'll Never Walk Alone ringtone and a six-pack of Carlsberg. :)

From what I can tell, this eBay seller uses the one penny starting tactic fairly often. I suppose it might work in the seller's favor--particularly when the shipping charges are inflated--but in this case, the buyer prevailed.

There's no reason to hum along when Liverpool's favorite anthem plays ...

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark

At the end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of the lark

Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on walk on with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark

At the end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of the lark

Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on walk on with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk

You'll never walk
You'll never walk alone.
