August 18, 2005Online Bank Statement Sheds LightI’m a big fan of online banking. I can’t ever see going back to those bad old days when the bank only doled out the info once a month (and at least a week late). When you bank online, you know exactly what’s in your account, what’s cleared, and what hasn’t. So when I saw something odd in my account earlier this summer, right after it happened, I knew something was up … I was checking my account online when I noticed a duplicate charge on my debit card. There were two charges from a gas station for the exact same amount on the same day. Bells immediately went off in my head. What are the chances that I would incur the exact same charge twice? Without online access to my bank account, I would have never caught it right away ... I quickly emailed the bank to ask what to do. While their email reply was prompt, I wasn't able to resolve the issue online. Instead, I had to stop in a branch office to file a report. Hey, you can't do everything online.
