Prefab Trusses

A reader wrote in last week, asking about prefab trusses and sheer walls:

What kind of shear wall would I need for a 10x10 shed? I plan on buying prefabbed trusses from a local lumber company and there will be 2 2' doors centered on one side.

The best bet is to check your local building codes. Are you you planning to use structural plywood sheathing or let-in diagonal bracing? With any luck, someone at your lumber company will be able to point you in the right direction. You don't let them build your prefab trusses without knowing exactly what's required. Don't overlook the type of fastener they use to build your trusses ... the fasteners can be specified by code.

I'm a big fan of over-building. When in doubt, use more wood!
