Replacement Windows Cost
I'm trying to get a handle on the cost of replacement windows and it's been tough getting down to the hard numbers. No doubt about it, window replacement is one of the most active niches in home improvement. It's easy to get overwhelmed when you consider the virtual flood of replacement window offers in the mailbox and newspapers ... it's hard to know which of these companies are going to cut a good deal on a top notch product.
Owning a home is a constant exercise in mathematics, economics, and restraint ... even more so today.
When I think about installing my own replacement windows, cost is the number one factor. But it's followed closely by the need to have the tightest installation possible. I've read a bunch of stuff on how to install replacement windows and I'm at the point now where I might just give the project a whirl myself ... starting with just one small casement window on the back of my house.
I see no reason not to go with Anderson replacement windows, as our house was built decades ago exclusively with Andersons. While they haven't all held up well, most of the problems have been with the smaller pieces of hardware. I want something that will hold up over the years and see no reason to go for a less expensive replacement vinyl window.
The next step is to block off a day when I'll be uninterrupted from dawn until dusk. I'm planning to pick up the new wood replacement window the night before and have all the materials on hand before I go to town and start pulling off the window trim.
If I can get this first small window installed without too much hassle, I'll have a good idea how the whole project might run. The plan is to keep the replacement windows cost down by shopping around and doing as much, if not everything, with the hands we have on hand ...Posted by geekbooks at March 13, 2009 01:58 PM
