Shed Building Cost Estimates

We frequently get inquiries regarding the cost of building a shed. These can be difficult questions to answer, as the variables depend on range of factors including:

  • type of construction
  • type of foundation
  • quality of materials
  • geographic location
  • specific requirements
  • percentage of sweat equity

I'm considering building a 12X20 shed with a front and back door with 2 windows. I'd also like to add a water pipe and electrical outlet inside this shed in order to place a washing machine and dryer inside.

What would be an estimated cost to have this done?

In order to answer that question, you need to begin by specifying the type of construction. Will it be conventionally framed with 2x4 studs or will it use a post frame or other building method? What kind of siding and roofing materials will you uses? Will you need a poured slab foundation?

Utility hookups can add a considerable amount to the cost estimate. If you're running water into the shed for the washing machine, where will the waste water go? How far is it to the main house and to the sewer line or septic hookup? Do you need a 220 line or will 110 suffice?
