Small Bike Shed

Fitting a shed to your exact needs and limitations can be a real trick. All the more so when you're looking to build a small shed to fit in a tight space ... your requirements aren't likely to be met by many, if any, prefab kits or ready made plans.

I am looking for a shed to stash my bikes in that I can build myself. At the MAX it needs to be 70 inches tall and 33 inches wide. That is the space I have to put it in. I would also like to be able to stand up in it. Thanks a million. I would look for myself but this is all foreign to me.

This one got me scratching my head. So I grabbed my tape measure and headed out to the garage to measure our bikes.

33 inches makes for one skinny shed ... and a tight fit for more than one bicycle. (You'll have to park one north/south and the other south/north.) And at a 70 inch height, it will be impossible for anyone much over five feet tall to stand up straight without whacking their head on the rafters. A simple one plane shed roof is probably the best bet.

In all likelihood, you'll have to draw up a set of plans ... or better yet, find a handy friend that can draw them for you and help you build the bike shed. The good news is that your cost for materials should be low.

You might want to download a free copy of Google's SketchUp 3D design software and give it a whirl to try out some different ideas ...
