Storage Shed: Build from Plans or Buy a Kit?

Folks ask this question all the time, "Should I build my storage shed from a set of shed plans or should I buy a shed kit?" The answer is, in short, "it all depends." There are a number of factors involved in the decision.

  • If you want a completely custom shed, you may want to build from scratch. Once you find a plan that you like, you can decide on the siding and roofing materials.
  • If you are short on time, you may want to go with a storage shed kit. Stick building will inevitably take longer.
  • If you are short on money, you'll probably want to build from plans. Building from scratch means an investment in sweat equity.
  • If you are building your shed on a slope, there are even more considerations. You'll want to read this article.

While building from scratch gives you the ultimate in flexibility, it isn't the only way to a beautiful shed. These days, there are many handsome storage shed and cabana kits. But you won't find the most gorgeous shed kits at places like Lowes and Home Depot.

You'll find those gorgeous shed kits here. :)
