July 05, 2007Storage Shed Costs"What will it cost me to have a shed built?" Over and over, the question comes up. Building a shed is an a la carte affair .. there's no set cost. Some builders may only quote the complete job, while others will provide a detailed breakdown of costs. Others may want to quote on the basis of square footage. A reader from Canada wrote: Can you please send me an e-mail on how much a new storage shed would cost, and could you please include the cost of having someone else build the shed for you. Take a look at the article, What's the Cost of Building a Shed? ... it offers a bit of insight into the factors involved. Much of this changes on a geographic basis ... it's a lot cheaper to build where lumber is plentiful and the labor rates are lower. Move to a fancy area far from the forests and everything costs more. If you build it yourself and stay away from expensive materials, you might be able to bring in the project for less than $10 a square foot. Have someone do the job and get ready for the cost to double ... Keep in mind that time is money when labor is involved. (On a side note, the standard practice here is to reply to questions as article posts, rather than in email ... although if you specifically request an email response, I can oblige.)
